About This Workshop

This is a real “No Waste” project. Learn to recycle Jeans, linen and Doilies into a beautiful coverlet in three classes.

In the first class students will be cutting and planning their coverlet. In the second class you will start construction of the background. The third and final class will involve installing all the gathered treasures into the denim.

Student are required to bring their own sewing machine in good working order with a walking foot, fabric marking pen, and a selection of old denim jeans (4 or 5 pairs), doileys, linen and lace pieces to be cut up, rotary cutter, self healing mat, thick templastic, sharp scissors, grey sewing thread, pins - flower head or long quilting pins .

Tutor: Deb Layt is an Internationally awarded Textile Artist who has been in the Sewing Machine Industry for 30 years. She is a well-known Tutor and, having owned her own Patchwork shop in the past, has a vast array of knowledge. Deb’s practice ranges from traditional patchwork and quilting to innovative textile art. She is always experimenting with different techniques and products looking for fun and easy ways to express her art. Deb is currently on a journey of repurposing to not only reduce waste but also her extensive collection of fibre products.
