About This Workshop

Raw edge applique is a simple and easy-to-learn technique. In this class you will learn this beautiful applique technique, and if time permits, you can then make your piece into a bag, cushion, or wall-hanging.  Students are required to bring their own sewing machine, and other materials as listed below.

What to bring :

  • 50cm Main Fabric
  • If making a bag or cushion purchase extra fabric – 1mtr will be plenty
  • 50cm Iron on Tearaway Stabilizer
  • Black thread
  • Vlizafix (fusible web – paper backed)
  • Bird and dragonfly fabrics – a variety of small pieces of blue, brown and other colours (5” square of each will do)
  • Size 12/80 machine needles
  • Sewing Machine in good working order
  • Sharp scissors
  • Lead pencil
  • Note book and pen

Tutor: Deb Layt is an International awarded Textile Artist who has been in the Sewing Machine Industry for 30 years. She is a well-known Tutor and, having owned her own Patchwork shop in the past, has a vast array of knowledge. Deb’s practice ranges from traditional patchwork and quilting to innovative textile art. She is always experimenting with different techniques and products looking for fun and easy ways to express her art. Deb is currently on a journey of repurposing to not only reduce waste but also her extensive collection of fibre products.
