About This Workshop
This is a two-day workshop in making a traditional melon basket that encompasses basic basket making skills for beginners and improvers with textile artist Anne Thoday. Anne is a multi-disciplinary artist producing works that arouse an appreciation and reverence for the natural world. Students will learn how to set up a frame for a ribbed basket, god’s eyes and other weaving techniques and also learn how to identify, collect and treat plant materials from the environment, for use in basketry. All materials will be supplied.
What you will learn:
- How to set up a frame for a traditional melon basket
- How to weave a gods eye
- Twining technique
- How to identify, collect and treat plant materials for use in basketry
Date: Sat/Sun Feb 8 & 9 2020
Time: 10 am to 4pm
Class fee: $290
Materials fee: $30 to be paid to tutor on the day

Anne’s practice is seated largely within the realm of contemporary environmental art. She is a multi-disciplinary, exhibited artist producing works that arouse an appreciation and reverence for the natural world.
