Handwriting: Text as Texture
Time & Location
About This Workshop
Beginning with your own handwriting, this workshop will explore the effect of a range of tools (from brushes to conventional & handmade pens) on different paper surfaces, using a variety of inks and paints. We will be exploring the concept of 'text as texture', with the potential to incorporate it in your own creative works on paper or fabric later.
You'll be guided in this exploration by experienced calligrapher, Deirdre Hassed. This workshop is a natural follow-on from the earlier 'Enhanced Handwriting' class run by Deirdre, but can also be taken with no prior experience.
You will learn: How to prepare sumi stick ink and walnut ink, how to make your own 'Coke' pen & ideas for including text in works on paper or fabric.
Finish the class with a notebook containing trials of writing and textures, your own handmade pen, and different paper samples showcasing various tools & techniques.
