About This Workshop

Simple stitches in a variety of yarns have an enormous impact when embellishing hessian fabric painted in blocks of colour. In this class, you'll learn how to select complementary and contrasting threads to decorate the hessian, which can then be used to make the outside surface of a simple bag. Also learn some more complex embroidery stitches to enhance the stitched surface. And you'll receive instruction on how to finish your clutch - the techniques for construction will be useful in many other projects.

Even more experienced stitchers will most likely find some aspects new and interesting.

Date: Saturday 8 September 2018

Time: 10:00am-4:00pm

Class fee: $135 includes all materials

Materials provided by the tutor: a piece of painted hessian for your clutch plus an extra piece for practicing your stitches, a bag of yarns (enough to cover the surface), and a needle (#14 tapestry).

Guest Tutor: Mary Webster is a textile artist with a love of colour. Textile art has been her passion for many years and she took it seriously enough to undertake and to complete, by correspondence, a Diploma in Textile Art from City and Guilds, London.
