About This Workshop

Discover the ancient and contemplative craft of basket making with artist Anne Thoday. In this 6 hour workshop you will learn the technique of coiled basketry, where materials are stitched together. No previous basketry experience is necessary. The tutor will provide all materials and tools, but students may also like to bring their own reclaimed materials for experimentation. You will leave with a little coiled basket of your own making.

Skills you’ll learn:

  • How to begin a coiled basket
  • A variety of plants that can be used in basketry
  • How to prepare plants from the garden

Time:10am to 4pm

Class fee: $145

Materials fee: $10 to cover the cost of a kit of materials and tools

What to bring:

  • Pen/ pencil notebook
  • A large tapestry needle (available in-store at Opendrawer)
