About This Workshop

This workshop will teach you the basics of how to construct necklaces and bracelets using flexible wire (called tiger tail) and using various types of cord. There will be beads for you to forage through from Opendrawer, and tutor Claudine will have a selection for you to choose from too. Bring your imagination and creativity and get ready to play in the world of beading.

Date: Saturday 15 Jan 2020, 10am-12:30pm

Cost: $70 (plus materials fee)

Materials fee: $10 (paid directly to Claudine on the day) - kit includes the wire, cording, and findings you will need

What you will learn:

  • The basics about how to graduate size, and to combine different sizes of beads on your own creations
  • How to secure the ends of necklaces and bracelets
  • About the different kinds of clasps available
  • Where to find local suppliers for beads and findings

What you will get:

  • You can make as many necklaces and bracelets as you have time for (some pieces may need to be finished at home with the skills you have learned)

What to bring:

  • Reading glasses, if required
  • Any beads (or Opp shop purchases) you have that you want to play with (some beads will be included from Opendrawer and the tutor)
  • Pencil/pen and paper

Appropriate for: 

People 18 and over interested in learning the basics of beading for jewellery.

About the Tutor: Claudine McPherson has been in the jewellery industry for almost 30 years and currently works at Ashburton Jewellery repairing and restringing jewellery (and pearls) for locals.

Note: Please do not bring your pearls to this class. Threading and knotting pearls is a separate, more complicated technique that requires a class on it's own. Please stay tuned to the website for the next pearl knotting class.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

If for any reason you decide that the workshop you have done or are doing does not suit you, then that is a personal decision and no refund will be given.

If Opendrawer cancels a workshop, you will be given a full refund or can choose a replacement workshop to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is necessary due to insufficient enrolments.

Terms & Conditions

A $10 admin fee applies to all changes of date/workshop bookings.

Cancellations made within two weeks of the booked workshop will forfeit 50% of the advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop will forfeit the full advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

A minimum of five people are required for a workshop to run. Opendrawer reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum booking is not achieved. Full refunds will be given or a replacement workshop offered to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is deemed necessary. Unfortunately, due to the workshop timetable, no makeup classes are available.
